Need for Speed: ProStreet PC Installation Guide... play it like a pro

ProStreet can be a huge pain in the ass to run and install on PC. Even worse, with its abandonware status, nobody is going to come to the rescue to patch the many issues that the game struggles with. Fortunately, I have assembled this guide to help users who are afflicted by the usual BS that ProStreet brings about on PC. I am a Windows 10 user, so this guide should be very up-to-date. WARNING: DON'T SKIP ANY STEP! THEY ARE ALL NECESSARY TO ENSURE A QUALITY GAMING EXPERIENCE!

Step 1 - Install the game. I recommend downloading from a torrent site with uTorrent unless you have the actual disk. Again, ProStreet is officially abandonware, so pirate it all you want without compromising your moral integrity.

Step 2 - Rename the game's executable in the install location to anything other than the default 'nfs.exe' (I renamed mine to ProStreet.exe)

Step 3 - Delete the 'ONLINE', 'PB', and 'Support' folders in the game directory.

Step 4 - Download SimpleProgramDebugger.

Step 5 - Create a shortcut for SimpleProgramDebugger where you normally keep shortcuts for your non-DRM games. Rename the shortcut to NFS ProStreet or whatever you want the game to be called.

Step 6 - If you are using a controller (which I recommend, especially for Speed Challenge), you will need to calibrate it. I used an Xbox One controller. To begin, search for 'joy.cpl' in the Start Menu and click to open. Navigate to 'Properties>Settings>Calibrate...'. Calibration tips: the 'd-pad' is the right joystick, the Z-axes are the pressure-sensitive triggers, and the X and Y axes are also the right joystick. Once available, check the 'Show Raw Data' box. Thoroughly massage each component around as indicated by the calibration program, making sure that you are hitting the minimum 0 value and the maximum 65535 value multiple times on each trial. When done, go back to the 'Test' tab in the 'Properties' menu and verify that the readouts in the 'Axes' box are generally centered. If they are visibly off, massage the components around and observe the readouts once more. If they are still off, recalibrate.

Step 7 - Open your shortcut for SimpleProgramDebugger that you made earlier. Hit Ctrl+N or navigate to 'File>Start New Process'. This will open a new dialog box. Inside the 'Start Folder' box, copy and paste the file folder location of the game. Then, go over to the 'Process' box and paste the location again while making sure to add a backslash and the new name of your former 'nfs.exe' file (for me, this addition would look like 'ProStreet.exe'). Once you run the process, the 'Process' and 'Start Folder' boxes will be saved, so when you want to relaunch the game simply hit Ctrl+N and click OK.

Step 8 - Run the game. In the event that you can't get past the first 'Load complete' dialog box, hit Ctrl+Shift+Esc (Task Manager) and navigate to the 'Details' tab. Find and right-click on the ProStreet task, go to 'Set Affinity', uncheck every box except CPU 0, and click OK. Go back to the game and continue all the way to the main menu. Go into Options>Audio and change your audio quality to 'High', then go to Options>Graphics and choose the graphics settings that work best with your computer (regardless of your computer's processing power, V-Sync is highly recommended). Once you have done all of this, navigate back out to the main menu and click 'Quit'.

Step 9 - Relaunch the game and enjoy working your way up to taking down that prick Ryo
